To update your Udyam certificate, go to udyamregistration.gov.in → Login → Update/Cancel Udyam Registration. Enter your Udyam Registration Number and the mobile number from your original application, then choose the OTP on that mobile or on your registered email. Log in, edit the details, submit with the final OTP, and download the new PDF from Print / Verify. Your URN does not change. Aadhaar and PAN cannot be edited.
A wrong address, an old NIC code or a bank account you closed two years ago can sit quietly on a Udyam certificate until a bank or a GeM buyer spots it. Then it matters. The good news is that most details can be corrected online in one sitting, and the registration number stays the same. This guide walks through the exact login, the fields you can and cannot change, and the part most guides skip: what to do when the mobile number you registered with is gone.
Udyam registration is permanent, but the details on it are not frozen. The government portal has a separate login just for changes, called Update/Cancel Udyam Registration. It lives under the Login menu, not under Print / Verify, which is why a lot of people go looking in the wrong place. Updating keeps your Udyam Registration Number (URN) and your original registration date, so every loan file or tender that already carries the old number stays valid.
Keep these ready before you open the portal:
There is no document upload and no government fee for an update.
Most people finish this in 10 to 15 minutes when the OTP arrives on the first try.
| Detail on the certificate | Can you update it? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Office or plant address | Yes | Add or remove plant locations too |
| NIC code and major activity | Yes | Add a new activity or fix a wrong code |
| Mobile number and email | Yes, after login | You need the old mobile or old email to log in first |
| Bank account and IFSC | Yes | Match the account used for business payments |
| Enterprise or unit name | Yes | Keep it consistent with PAN and GST records |
| Number of employees, social category | Yes | Update as your business changes |
| Turnover and investment | Not by hand, usually | Taken from ITR and GST data, so fix the filing at the source |
| Aadhaar of owner or signatory | No | It is the identity of the registration |
| PAN and organisation type | No | A new PAN or a new structure means a fresh registration |
The last two rows are where people get stuck. If you converted a proprietorship into a private limited company or an LLP, the new company has its own PAN. That is a different enterprise in the eyes of the portal, so it needs its own Udyam registration, not an update to the old one.
This is the most common reason people can’t update their certificate. The SIM was lost, the number was a relative’s, or a CA registered it using their own phone. Here is how it actually works on the login page.
You still have the old email. Type the old mobile number in the mobile field (you only need to know the number, not have the phone), then pick “OTP on Email as filled in application”. The OTP goes to your inbox and you can log in. Once inside, update the mobile number to your current one so this does not happen again.
You don’t remember the old number. Look at your original registration email or SMS, or ask whoever filed it for you. The mobile number is not printed on the certificate itself.
You have neither the old mobile nor the old email. The portal cannot log you in, and there is no self-service reset. The Ministry lists a grievance channel on the login page (champions@gov.in, and a call or WhatsApp line on weekdays), and you will need to explain the case and prove ownership. If you would rather hand it over, we handle mobile and email changes as part of our ₹599 edit service and email you the corrected certificate.
The same OTP problem shows up during registration too. If the OTP isn’t coming through, see Udyam OTP not received.
Wrong or missing NIC code. This one costs money. A trader registered under a manufacturing code, or a service business missing its main activity, can be refused a scheme or a tender category. Pick the right code with the NIC code finder or the NIC code guide before you open the form.
Shifted office or new branch. Update the official address and add plant locations. Banks match this address against your loan documents.
Closed bank account. Subsidy and scheme payments can bounce to a dead account. Update it the day you change banks.
Name mismatch with PAN or GST. A spelling difference between Udyam and GST is a classic reason for rejection. If the name mismatch is on the GST side, see Udyam GST mismatch error.
Cancelling to start over. Cancellation is permanent. A new registration gets a new URN and a new date, and any loan, tender or buyer record with the old number no longer matches. Cancel only if the enterprise has actually closed or its PAN has changed.
Registering a second time with the same PAN. One PAN can hold only one Udyam registration. A duplicate attempt is blocked and can leave you with a half-finished application that confuses things further.
Editing fields you didn’t need to touch. Every changed field is checked again. Change what is wrong and nothing else.
Leaving before the final OTP. If you close the tab before the confirmation screen, the changes are not saved.
Download the certificate again and read every line: name, address, NIC codes, activity and organisation type. Save it as a PDF and replace the old copy you share with banks and buyers. The URN and the date of registration will be the same as before, and that is expected. If you are not sure the change went through, you can also verify the Udyam number to see the details on record.
On udyamregistration.gov.in open Login → “Update/Cancel Udyam Registration”. Enter your URN and the mobile number from the original application, choose OTP on mobile or email, and log in. Open the update option, edit the fields, submit with the final OTP, then download the new certificate from Print / Verify.
No. The URN and the original registration date stay the same. Only the edited details change on the certificate.
Often yes. Type the old number in the mobile field and choose “OTP on Email”. The OTP goes to the registered email. If you have lost both the old mobile and the old email, the portal cannot log you in and you need the MSME grievance channel or an assisted service.
Aadhaar and PAN cannot be edited. A new PAN or a change of organisation type means a new enterprise and a fresh registration. Turnover and investment usually come from ITR and GST data, so you correct them at the source.
The government portal does not charge for updates. Private consultants charge only for doing the work on your behalf.
Usually no. Cancelling is permanent and a new registration gets a new URN and date, which can break existing loan, tender and buyer records. Use the update option unless the PAN or organisation type has changed.
Send us your Udyam number and what needs fixing. We update the details, including a mobile or email you no longer have, and email you the corrected certificate, usually within 24 to 48 hours. ₹599, all in.
